Most tiles are fairly easy to maintain. But sometimes you suffer from green deposits on tiles, or you want to clean them thoroughly. To guarantee a long life for your tiles, it is important that you clean them properly. You don't want to damage the tiles! Read in this article what you should and should not do.
Cleaning ceramic tiles
Ceramic tiles are very easy to maintain. Because the tile is baked at a high temperature, the pores close so that no dirt can settle between the tiles. You can easily remove the superficial dirt during your weekly cleaning. To do this, use a detergent that is as neutral as possible (pH7) without acids and avoid agents with oil. This will form layers on the tiles. Wipe the floor with water again and they are like new again.
Green tiles? Cleaning patio tiles
Maintaining outdoor tiles can also be an art. It may happen that you suffer from green deposits. A shame, but fortunately there is another solution. For example, put some cleaning vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it over the tiles with green deposits. Rinse with water and scrub with a stiff broom. You can also do this: dissolve 5 tablespoons of soda and 5 tablespoons of green soap in a full bucket of water (about 10 liters), pour this over the tiles and let it work for an hour. Make sure that after these tricks you rinse the tiles well with water and scrub with a hard broom, especially if you have pets. There may be something left behind otherwise and that is not good for animals.
Can I use the pressure washer on my garden tiles?
That depends very much on the tiles in your garden. It is very important to know this before you just put the pressure washer on your tiles. Do your tiles have a top layer? Then you better not use a high-pressure cleaner! The pressure of this is so hard that you spray the top layer off. It is also better not to treat tiles made of cement with a high-pressure cleaner. These are relatively soft compared to natural stone. As a result, you spray off the top layer, the tiles become rough and eventually deposits grow on them faster. And then you're back to square one. Finally, you have to take into account that you spray sand between your tiles. This doesn't sound very serious, but it can cause your terrace tiles to lie crooked and even sag. If you still want to use the high-pressure cleaner, fill the space between the tiles again.
